Pagewood 1 v 6 AA9 Heffron Hawks
5 05 20106 OF THE BEST!!!
Pagewood 1 v 6 AA9 Heffron Hawks
2/4/2010
Well, what a difference a week makes. Everyone arrived on time despite the early timeslot, we warmed up well and had time for a good team talk before kickoff.
And it showed from the outset – even though the play wasn’t all our way, we definitely controlled the game. After a header that clanged off the crossbar, Dazza put in one of his trade mark shots from distance.
Once again, we fell asleep around the 20 minute mark and, even though Steve was having a good game in goal, they managed to slip one past us. Again, it came from us midfielders not tracking back to put enough pressure on.
The idea of drawing with the worst team in the comp scared us into action, and Monty ran on to a through ball to calmly beat the keeper one-on-one. James, Brook, Jim, Leroy and Benno all defended solidly, took their time on the ball and made some great passes. Dazza latched on to a nicely flicked header from Westy and beat the keeper again.
3-1 half time.
After another good team talk, we came out hungry. Crook, Monty, Todd and Dazza caused all kind of trouble in midfield. Ian and Westy made some great, well-timed runs. Pagewood were hungry too, and play went back and forth for about ten minutes before Ian slotted nicely home. After that, we started to run them down and play stayed mostly in their half. Next, a wonder goal from Benno, who smacked the ball home off the inside of the upright.
The sight of Benno scoring a goal must have been too much for their keeper, and he quietly fainted in back play. After some expert medical advice from Pagewood’s resident Dr Raul, the keeper hobbled off. Despite the distraction, we saw out the game.
6-1 full time.
Highlights: Having two subs was like fricking Christmas. I thought we also played really well off the throw-ins and that made a difference to our control of the game.
Great game guys. Let’s carry it on to the next one.
