Hedge funded win

15 08 2011

O35s Heffron Hawks 1 – 0 Coogee Utd AET.

The Hawks slinked into the Major Semi final v Pagewood thanks to a last second in injury time free kick goal from Player/Coach, Mark Hedge.

To sum it up… With the game locked at 0-0 after 119mins of play on what can only be described as a building site pitch – with both sides coming close to a goal on numerous occasions throughout the game and now looking tired and bored if I’m honest. Hedge had a last ditch melée of energetic running. “I didn’t want penalties… not after hearing about Mayday missing one the other week –  so went on a bit of a ‘chase the ball session’ – I robbed the centre back – passed to their right back instead of Mayday – got it back off him… then ran down the left wing – after getting pulled slightly by Coogee midfielder ‘Esty’ I won a ‘fair’ free kick on the corner of the box – much to the laughter of Greener & Co on the sidelines. I knew it was late in the game and just thought ‘get it into the box at pace’. So aiming for the back post I swung the leg, made fairly good contact and the ball took off toward the goal. The keeper looked to have it covered easily but only managed to flap it over his head and into the net! Classic! Seemed to take an age to reach him too – but who cares Golden goal! GAME OVER – we win 1-0 and now face Pagewood next week in the semi final – proper!”

Caaaaan the Hawks!

WE ARE HAAAAAWKS!

2 08 2011

On a rare day at Heffron where the wind was virtually non-existent, despite the early start, conditions were pleasant enough for football.  That is of course except for the condition of the pitch, which was woeful.  Congratulations must be passed on to local council for their ongoing commitment to providing the worst possible playing surfaces for football. Anyhow, we move on…  Read the rest of this entry »

Greek tragedy!

28 06 2011

O35 fall to Mascot 4-1. A very poor performance by our standards I think. Could have, should have done better. But for a bit of a bit of bad luck, we may have changed the game right on half time when ZUKY smashed a point blank shot against the bar and also a great save from a MAYDAY shot thwarted our repost! Mascot went on to slice us apart on numerous occasions. We squandered possession far too often and I think lacked any kind of bite – or as the Aussies say ‘mongrel’ in our game. A few players performed quite well – not least MAYDAY who turned in a performance that should have seen him on the winning side, but it was not to be. Read the rest of this entry »
